Steroplast Freeze Spray 150ml
Steroplast Freeze Spray offers instant relief for gymnasts of all abilities and ages. The spray actively works to cool the skin, ensuring that the muscle pain and stiffness that you are experiencing after training doesn’t prevent you returning to the gym or the arena.
Muscle pain and stiffness are just two side effects that go hand-in-hand with gymnastics training. Without the correct management and prevention, cramps, sprains and bruises will prevent you from staying in peak condition and impact heavily on performance. According to a study conducted by the Nuffield Foundation, 371 gymnasts are injured each and every year in the UK so understanding how to prevent, treat and manage sports injuries and their painful symptoms is vital.
Why do sports injuries happen?
Whilst every gymnast will go on their own intense physical and emotional journey, the training required at all levels will put even elite gymnasts at risk of injury. Due to the use of almost every muscle group, injuries can be sustained anywhere on the body, however the ankles, feet, lower back, knees, wrists and hands are particularly vulnerable.
Whilst injuries are rarely severe, the increased stress put on muscle groups, tendons, bones and joints can mean regular trips to the physiotherapist and result in chronic pain.
Sports injuries in the world of gymnastics happen for a number of reasons. Failure to stretch and condition your body appropriately before an intense training session or competition will leave your body at risk of injury. Using inadequate equipment or incorrect techniques are also two common causes of injury. Whilst overtraining can also put your muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons, joints and cartilage at risk.
Common injuries in gymnastics
Hip labral tears are particularly common, especially in gymnasts that are perfecting their skills on the rings, uneven bars and parallel bars. Wrist injuries are also a common occurrence as this delicate part of the body has to cope with increased demands and forces that often equate to double the body weight of the gymnast.
The Achilles tendon, foot and ankle are very susceptible to injury during training and at competition level.
Have I sustained a sports injury?
Depending on the exact nature of your sports injury, you may experience a wide range of symptoms. These include the following:
- Pain
- Swelling
- Restricted movement
- Stiffness
- Minor injuries i.e. bruises and blisters
Sports injuries tend to fall into two categories - sudden injury and overuse injury. A sudden injury occurs following impact or sudden movement, whilst overuse injuries develop over a period of weeks or months due to overtraining, incorrect use of equipment or poor technique.
Safety tips for gymnasts of all abilities
Preventing injury should be an important part of your training regime. Warming up appropriately is vital, whilst taking advice and training from a skilled and qualified coach will also mean you start out on the right foot using approved techniques and equipment.
Where you train is also important; ensure the practice area is equipped with padding, mats or a spring loaded floor. Never carry out high-risk or new techniques without being supervised by your coach or another experienced spotter.
Whilst you should aim to challenge yourself during training, taking safety for granted is not an option. Follow all recommended safety advice, warm up properly before exercise and don’t push your body too far beyond your current fitness level.
What to do if you become injured
What you do in the moments after you have sustained an injury can affect your wider recovery and return to training. Minor sports injuries can be treated with over-the-counter medication, and paracetamol and ibuprofen have proofed an effective way to relieve pain. For more serious injuries however, i.e. bone fractures, torn ligaments or cartilage damage, you should visit your doctor’s surgery, hospital or local physiotherapist for immediate treatment and advice.
As well as seeking treatment from a qualified medical professional and/or physiotherapist, using Steroplast Freeze Spray will also provide significant relief. This tailor-made and highly portable freeze spray ensures you have instant relief for any muscle pain and stiffness at your fingertips. The spray is ready-to-use making it ideal for sporting first aid kits or your personal supplies.
The Steroplast Freeze Spray provides a quick and easy fix, whilst increasing the suppleness of affected muscle groups and alleviating the aches and pains associated with common gymnastic injuries.
